This year’s Citywire New Model Adviser Top 100 is, as ever, full of fantastic firms making their mark on clients and communities.
We asked ourselves a difficult question when putting together the 2022 list: is it really a ‘Top’ 100?
In one sense it definitely is. These are the firms that have scored highest on our metrics created alongside AKG. They are all successful at recruiting, keeping clients happy and working with their communities. We want to celebrate this side of financial advice.
But we also recognise this list is not the be-all and end-all. Some great firms will always just miss out in any given year. Many may well return next time around.
Then there are the outstanding firms that, for whatever reason, do not apply. I would love it if every reader put their name forward for the Top 100 because it reflects the best of the profession and shows the positive impact advisers can have on clients and their community. But I realise that different firms have other priorities.
Ultimately, the best way to think about this list is that it provides an overview of how 100 different great firms are running an advice business in 2022. You might disagree with some inclusions or omissions. But we believe the list demonstrates the qualities of a good advice business and will stimulate ideas around ways to collaborate and grow the profession.
Methodology: Survey responses are assessed using a point-scoring system, approved by AKG. We looked for evidence of well-qualified staff, robust investment propositions, carefully segmented client bases, good use of technology, willingness to share best practice, client education, recruitment and contribution to professional standards to name just a few factors.
We also include questions tailored to national firms. A weighting system was used to make sure the largest and smallest firms were compared fairly. For example, we took into account the additional resources nationals have to recruit and train advisers.
