McCrea Financial Services

Managing director Douglas McCrea founded his Scottish advice firm in 1999 and is currently considering two potential suitors, having discounted other offers he felt focused on funds under advice not client service.

Despite a difficult year for financial markets, the firm’s assets under advice grew by £50m to £370m.

While seeking the right exit, the focus for McCrea has been on investing in technology, staff development and marketing. The firm moved its back-office from Plum to Intelliflo, which integrated with its client portal to drive efficiencies for the team and its 1,300 clients.

The firm’s strategy centres on maximising support and service for its clients, team and local community.

In terms of community support, the firm fundraised extensively and gave its time to several local charities and grassroots sports and community clubs. One recent initiative is the introduction of ‘spirit of McCrea’ days to allow its 27 employees to volunteer for good causes.
